Questions & Troubleshooting

  • I switched it on, but the light isn't on

If nothing has been recorded to your Book Buddy yet, the green lights may not flash when turned on. After you have added at least one recording, the green lights will flash 3 times when first turned on. The lights only stay lit while the device is playing back (green) or when you are in recording mode. This way it doesn’t drain the battery continuously.

  • Do I have to record the whole book at once?

Nope! You only have to re-record the page or pages for that particular button. Simply repeat the recording steps, and you’re good to go.

  • Where is the volume control?

There isn’t one— in our experience young kids and volume buttons don’t mix. The device will play back at the same level it was recorded.

The mic is quite sensitive- so don’t hold the device close to your mouth when recording. A good rule of thumb is to place it on a table in front of you, or the same distance away that you would read a book.

  • What if I have more than 21 pages? Or less?

We suggest starting on the page of the story instead of the title page, and recording sets of 2 facing pages together. This gives you more available buttons.

Alternatively, If you have unrecorded buttons left after reading, use them for personal messages, sing a song, or use them for special sound effects throughout the book. It’s up to you!

  • The box instructions mention a blue light, but there isn't one.

Our apologies! The devices were manufactured during supply chain related shortages, and blue was what was available. At the last minute, we got our green and red lights as originally planned- but not in time for the boxes to be printed!

  • What is the power source?

the Book Buddy requires 3 AAA batteries (not included)
